Provincial Minister for Revenue, Gul Hameed Khan Rokhri has said that Lambardari system is being activated in Punjab for improving revenue collection,, better liaison between rural population and the government as well as data collection regarding healthcare facilities and epidemics in villages.
This was stated by him while presiding over a meeting in the committee room of Board of Revenue. He said that government has decided to give incentives to Lambardars for making the system more effective.
In this connection, in colony districts where state land is available, 12.5 acres of land would be given to each Lambardari on lease for cultivation while the amount of 'Punjhotra' would be doubled in those districts where state land is not available.
He further said that the land given to Lambardar for cultivation will be withdrawn on his death or removal from his post and the same will be given to the new Lambardar.
Highlighting the importance of Lambardari system, the minister said that Lambardars play an effective role in better co-ordination between government departments and the rural folk.
He said that collection of government dues and revenue would also increase manifold by involving local Lambardars.
The minister said that it is also the duty of the Lambardars to inform the competent authority about epidemics.
Lambardars or outbreak of any disease in. villages or breach in canals and water channels etc.
At present, total post of Lambardars in Punjab are 3,8762 out of 17,000 are in colony district while in non-colony districts 2,1762 posts of Lambardars exist.
The vacant post of Lambardar would be filled with eligible and competent people on merit basis, the Minister concluded.
