ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Compressed Natural Gas Association (APCNGA) has given assurance to the government to continue CNG supply to public transport during CNG gas holidays.
After assurance in a meeting with Ejaz Chaudhry, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources regarding supply of CNG to public transport in Pindi and Islamabad, the transporters Association postponed its strike on October 18.
The Central Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha said it is not a proper solution as all the vehicle owners have equal right on CNG.
He said the 90 percent of the public transport runs on CNG that is why government cannot achieve its goals as a result of the strategy to provide CNG supply only to public transport in holidays.
He said permanent solution is to limit the CNG gas loadshedding to one day, only.
He said this solution will enable the government to save more gas in a zero supply gas holiday and added the gas supply should be given on priority basis to those sectors which don't have alternate business options.
Transporters Association delegation was led by Sultan Awan who called on the secretary petroleum. Representatives of District Administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi also participated in the meeting.
According to official source the issue of establishment of separate and designated CNG stations for public transport in Pindi and Islamabad was also discussed in the meeting.
The next round of talks will be held after 3-4 days. Meanwhile the source added the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and OGRA is in the process of consultations with all the stakeholders for LNG import.
Secretary Petroleum Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry has said that the impression being created about favoring one party for LNG import is baseless and completely wrong.
According to the source the 3rd Party Access Rules for LNG import are also being circulated and discussed jointly with all the stakeholders by the ministry and OGRA.
Policy of "1st Come, 1st Serve'' would be followed and the entire process of awarding license would be transparent.
Secretary Petroleum said that all parties applying for LNG import would be treated equally and the award process will be based on merit.
