Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has demanded of the government to hand over the supervision of relief and rehabilitation activities to the control of United Nations (UN) for ensuring transparency and accountability.
Addressing a press conference, the JKLF chairman Amanullah Khan said although all the agencies taking part in the process should be actively involved in the relief and rehabilitation activities, however, transparency could not be possible without proper supervision of a neutral party.
He said that in the absence of an impartial and neutral monitoring agency different quarters could influence the relief and rehabilitation process.
Commenting on the Mirwaiz Umer Farooq's recent proposals regarding 'United States of Kashmir', the JKLF leader said he conditionally and cautiously welcomed the proposal of formation of the "United States of Kashmir".
Amanullah said his party would support the new idea only if it was completely independent and not under foreign control. He termed the joint Indo-Pak control of Kashmir a dangerous proposal presented by Mirwaiz.
JKLF has also conditionally welcomed demilitarisation of Jammu and Kashmir State and rejected giving its people home rule or internal autonomy, as proposed by President Pervez Musharraf.
He further said the proposal of United States of Kashmir was quite in line with their own concept of a democratic, federal and secular republic in the divided Jammu and Kashmir, presented about a decade ago as a proposal and in June 2003 in the shape of a roadmap.
He said JKLF wanted Kashmir should be a completely independent state having friendly relations with both of its neighbours.
