Former Australian pacer Glenn McGrath, who has got 563 wickets in 124 Tests, has praised the new crop of Indian cricketers and said that Virat Kholi and Sachin Tendulkar have totally different personalities from each other.

According to Sportscafe; the former Australian pacer has insisted that Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar are vastly different in terms of personalities. The Aussie also believes that the attitude Virat Kohli brings to the field will hold him in good stead in his career and that he “will be around for a long time”.

“Virat [Kohli] and Sachin [Tendukar] are different personalities. There is no doubt that Sachin is one of the all time greats. Virat is confident; he has got this attitude to batting. He does not back down.

“Virat probably comes a bit harder at you, considering the T20 format,” said McGrath while interacting with media on Tuesday, reported The Hindu.

When asked about his duels with Sachin Tendulkar on the field, McGrath said, “Sachin was positive and confident and went about his business. I would never say I dominated Sachin Tendulkar. I had some good days against him and he had some good days against me as well.

“I enjoyed bowling to the guys who were described as class players and were able to adjust to the conditions around the world. I would bowl to Sachin in areas which he did not like and he would wait for a bad ball.”

Despite his initial qualms about the 20-over version of the game, McGrath feels that the format has helped in bringing in new people to the game.

“You look at the guys like Virat, A.B. de Villiers, Steve Smith, Joe Root — they are quality Test players and are also up there with the best in T20. You still need to be a quality batsman to succeed at T20 level too,” he said.

Kohli's 2016 tally of 752 – boosted by three hundreds and five fifties in his 12 innings – surpasses the 733 amassed by Bangalore team-mate Chris Gayle in 2012 and Mike Hussey in 2013. However, Tendulkar scored 18,426 runs and 49 hundreds in his 463 ODIs, while Kohli has notched 7,212 runs and 25 tons in his 171 games to date.
