Vegetable prices increase in twin cities

ISLAMABAD: Prices of vegetables have increased in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi due to their short supply.

The consumers have demanded of the district administration to take effective steps to overcome the price hike of fruit and vegetables in the markets. They also complained of their poor quality.

Vendors, both in markets and weekly Bazaars of the Capital, do not display price lists and overcharge.

According to the official rate list issued by Capital Development Authority for weekly bazaars, the rate of potatoes was Rs170 to 190 per five kilograms, onion Rs200 per five kg, tomato Rs64 per kg, garlic Rs76 per kg, brinjal Rs12-20 per kg, cabbage Rs50 per kg, cauliflower Rs30 per kg, lady fingers Rs46 per kg, capsicum Rs120 per kg, green chilli Rs92 per kg, lemon Rs60 per kg, turnip Rs35 to 40 per kg and carrot Rs60 per kg.

Prices of different variety of apples were fixed at Rs80 to 100 per kg, banana Rs30 to 40 per dozen, mangoes Rs80 to 90 per kg, and different varieties of grapes were available at Rs100 to 160 per kg.
