ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other concerned organizations to submit implementation reports regarding slum areas.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed, comprising of Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Dost Muhammad Khan heard the suo-moto case.
The bench remarked that how the CDA could stop others from encroaching state land if it was converting green belts into residential or commercial plots in total violations of its by-laws. The CDA itself issued 'No Objection Certificates' to land grabbers and encroachers, the court observed.
The bench also remarked that the government failed to provide shelter to the poor and needy segment of the society.
During the course of proceedings, the counsel for CDA told the court that the civic agency did not agree with the recommendations of expert working group on slum areas. He said, it was cleared that these slum areas cannot be regularized.
