SC to resume hearing on Karachi target killings amid tight security on Monday
KARACHI: A special bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will resume hearing of suo motu case on target killings in Karachi here on Monday.
The bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani, Justice Amer Hani Muslim and Justice Ghulam Rabbani had adjourned the hearing on August 30 due to Eid holidays.
On the last hearing senior lawyer Hafeez Pirzada, representing the Sindh Government had completed his arguments.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court's Karachi Registry, has made security arrangements which would be regulated through special security passes to be issued by the Registrar's office.
According to its announcement here on Sunday, passes will be issued to the petitioners, respondents and their counsel appearing before the Court.
Entry of the journalists who regularly cover Supreme Court's proceedings will also be made through passes. Any additional demand for journalists' entry could be made to the Deputy Registrar, Supreme Court Registry.
As regards others, passes will be issued to all those who are interested to watch proceedings subject to seating capacity in the courtroom. Passes to be issued on "first-come-first-serve-basis" may be obtained from the office of the Deputy Registrar.
Entry into court building will be allowed after checking/frisking and searching of bags/purses etc. No Cell phone would be allowed inside the courtroom. Special arrangements have been put in place to ensure foolproof security at the court's premises.
The road leading to Karachi Registry located near the Arts Council will remain closed for normal traffic during the hearing, a security official said.
