Senate calls to action on breach of lawmaker's privileges
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges Senator, Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi has called for `stern disciplinary action' against the officials of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for breaching lawmakers' privileges.
The meeting of the Committee was held here on Thursday under the Chairmanship of Senator Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi and the members included Senators Syeda Sughra Imam, Dr. Muhammad Ismail Buledi, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Moula Baksh Chandio attended the meeting. Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources and Managing Director SNGPL was also present in the meeting.
Senator Muhammad Zahid Khan moved privilege motions against the irresponsible attitude of Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haq and on incorrect replies of the questions raised by the Senator to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources.
Tahir Mashhadi said that "the official of SNGPL responsible for giving wrong reply on the hearing of Senate to be suspended and disciplinary action be taken against the officer."
Senator Mashhadi said that to misguide the parliament is a crime and we can not accept breach of Law maker's privileges.
He said that SNGPL officials have submitted wrong information to the Parliament and he directed the department to prepare comprehensive report for the ministry of Petroleum which would be presented in the next meeting of the committee.
