england-vs-irelandDUBLIN: England gave debuts to James Taylor, Ben Stokes and Scott Borthwick as the one-day side were put into bat by Ireland at Clontarf on Thursday.

England, who were led by Dublin-born Eoin Morgan for the first time, omitted Graham Onions and Jonathan Bairstow from a relatively inexperienced 13-man squad.

Morgan, who qualified for England on residency grounds, is the first Irishman to skipper England in over a hundred years since County Kildare-born Frederick Fane took over the captaincy during the Ashes tour of Australia in 1907-08.

Jonathan Trott made the also made the England side after missing the last two Tests against India with a shoulder injury.

Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss - delayed by 15 minutes due to rain - and decided to bowl first despite the absence of opening bowler Trent Johnston with a knee injury.

England will be looking for revenge after Ireland dramatically beat them by three wickets, with Kevin O'Brien scoring the fastest-ever World Cup hundred, when the teams last met in Bangalore in March.

Ireland: William Porterfield (capt), Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce, Niall O'Brien (wkt), Alex Cusack, Gary Wilson, Kevin O'Brien, John Mooney, Nigel Jones, Boyd Rankin, George Dockrell.

England: Jonathan Trott, Craig Kieswetter (wkt), James Taylor, Eoin Morgan (capt), Ravi Bopara, Ben Stokes, Samit Patel, Scott Borthwick, Chris Woakes, Jade Dernbach, Steven Finn.

Umpires: Steve Davis (AUS) and Mark Hawthorne (NIR)

TV umpire: Rob Bailey (ENG)

Match referee: David Jukes (ENG).
