Sports goods, leather exports increase in July

ISLAMABAD: Exports of sports goods and leather manufactures increased by 10.23 percent and 7.12 percent to reach at $28.680 million and $53.883 million respectively during July 2011 as compared to the same month of last year.

Sports and leather exports during July 2010 were recorded at $32.791 million and $46.558 million respectively, according to figures provided by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

However, as compared to the exports of $32.791 million of June 2011, the sports exports decrease by 12.54 percent while as compared to the leather exports of $46.558 million in June 2011, exports in July increased 15.73 percent.

Among the sports products, the exports of foot balls increased by 13.44 percent by going up from $11.922 million in July 2010 to $13.439 million in July 2011.

Similarly, the exports of gloves increased from $9.575 million in July 2010 to $11.695 million in July 2011, showing an increase of 22.83 percent, the data revealed.

However, the exports of other sports goods witnessed negative growth of 23.75 percent during July 2011 over July 2010. The exports of other sports good stood at $3.546 million in July 2011 as compared to the exports of $4.679 million in July 2010.

Among the leather products, the exports of leather garments increased by 9.23 percent by growing from $39.261 million July 2010 to $42.629 million in July 2011.

Similarly, the exports of leather gloves increased from $10.239 million in July 2010 to $10.277 million in July 2011, showing an increase of 1.03 percent.

However, the exports of other leather manufactures decreased 11.58 percent from $1.113 million in July 2010 to $0.977 million in July 2011.

The exports of foot wear were recorded at $11.114 million in July 2010 against the exports of $9.770 million in July 2010, showing an increase of 14.35 percent.

Among footwear, the exports of leather wear increased 18.88 percent where as that of canvas footwear increased 50 percent.

The exports of leather foot wear during July 2011 were recorded at $9.591 million against exports of $8.116 million in last July whereas the exports of canvas footwear stood at just 0.035 million in July 2011 against exports of 0.018 million in July 2010, the FBS figures revealed.

The exports of other footwear, however, decreased 8.57 percent during the month under review as the exports declined from $1.636 million to $1.488 million.

On the other hand the exports of leather (tanned) increased by over 6 percent from $37.050 million in July 2010 to $39.049 million in July 2011, the FBS data revealed.
