ISLAMABAD: The District Badin in Sindh has received record breaking rainfall of 295 mm during the current monsoon spell which started on Wednesday, Chief Meteorologist Ghulam Rasool said on Friday.
Talking to APP, he said the maximum rainfall was earlier recorded 121 mm in Badin in 1936. The heavy cloudburst during last 48-72 hours had displaced many people besides destroying crops in the area.
The area of Mithi also received record rainfall of 436 millimeters during the spell, where maximum rainfall was recorded 114 mm in Mithi in 2004.
Ghulam Rasool said a strong weather pattern entered the areas of Sindh from Rajhastan and Indian Gujrat which was earlier slow but gained strength with the passage of time and caused heavy downpours.
The Met Office had informed all district coordination officers, Provincial Disaster Management Authority, chief secretaries and chief ministers about the heavy monsoon rainspell two days ago to take precautionary measures, the Chief Meteorologist said.
He said the current monsoon spell was likely to continue till Monday with and scattered rains in most parts of the country.
However, another monsoon weather system will approach the country from Aug 15, Ghulam Rasool said.
The rainfall recorded in different cities till 0800 hours on Friday was: Badin 147 mm, Mirpur Khas 125 mm, Nawabshah 108 mm and Hyderabad 23 mm.
