china-stockSHANGHAI: Chinese shares opened down 1.58 percent on Thursday, tracking sharp declines in overseas markets, on fears over the European debt crisis and the US economy, dealers said.

The Shanghai Composite Index was down 40.32 points at 2,508.86.
