Weekly inflation falls by 0.19pc

pakistan-commoditiesISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on 4 August 2011, for the lowest income group up to Rs.3,000, has registered decrease of 0.19 percent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 310.20 points as against 310.80 points registered in the previous week, according to provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

However, SPI for the combined group registered nominal increase of 0.04 percent as it went up from 298.05 points in the previous week to 298.18 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 14.80 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001 5000 and Rs.5001 12000 witnessed decrease of 0.18 percent and 0.08 percent respectively whereas SPI for the income group above Rs.12000 increased by 0.19.

During the week under review average prices of 8 items registered decrease, while that of 24 items increase with the remaining 21 items' prices unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included wheat flour (average quality), garlic, masoor pulse (washed), red chillies, mash pulse (washed), LPG( 11 kg cylender), wheat (average quality) and moong pulse (washed).

The items which registered increase in their prices included onions, bananas, potatoes, chicken (farm), kerosene, petrol, beef, shirting, sugar, gur, salt (powdered), rice (basmati broken), rice (irri-6), coarse latha, mutton, gram pulse (washed), tomatoes, electric bulb (60wats), mustard oil, firewood, tea (prepared), lawn, egg hen (farm), vegetable ghee loose.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included bread (plain), milk (fresh), milk (powdered), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), tea (packet), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, voil (printed), sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, match box, washing soap, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 units), diesel and telephone local call.
