LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Tuesday suggested the federal government to honour the apex court orders and impalement them in letter and spirit.
Addressing a press conference, he said, "Confrontation with the apex court and defiance of its orders will only harm the democracy."
The chief minister said entire nation especially the legal fraternity rendered numerous sacrifices for the restoration of democracy in the country and now they wanted continuation of present democratic setup. But, he said, if the government continued to avoid court orders, the situation would be more complicated in times to come.
Answering a question, the CM said, if needed they would not hesitate to sacrifice their government in Punjab. "We had quit ministries in 2008 at centre and also parted ways with the PPP in Punjab as they did not want to become part of any corruption.
Shahbaz said, today desperate people were ready to bring the corrupt to account. They are now waiting for a call which, he said, would soon be given by the PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif after July 27 party's Central Executive Committee meeting.
The chief minister whose main emphasis was probably to create an issue under the garb of judiciary, said the apex court showed utmost leniency towards the government.
He also complained about attitude of both the president and the prime minister.
The chief minister in an aggressive style said that his party was ready to take any challenge to be posed to them by the central government.
He was of the view that government did not want free and independent judiciary in the country.
He said, "Corruption was root cause of poverty and unemployment." He urged the people to step forward to stop corruption of the corrupt. "If not responded history will never forgive us," he told a questioner.
The chief minister refused to reply question about foreign minister's visit to India for peace talks saying main focus of his news conference was to defend judiciary.
