SINGAPORE: Tanzania's oil importers are seeking over 250,000 tonnes of oil products for delivery in February, about 9 percent more than what they bought in their previous industrial tender, traders said on Monday.
The Petroleum Importation Coordinator, which represents oil marketing companies in the east African nation, is seeking 166,607 tonnes of 50 ppm sulphur diesel, 71,858 tonnes of 10 ppm sulphur gasoline, 15,065 tonnes of jet fuel and 1,150 tonnes of kerosene.
The gasoline, jet fuel and kerosene cargoes are to be delivered into the Kurasini Oil Jetty while the gasoil cargoes are to be delivered into the country's single point mooring system.
The tender closes on Dec. 16.
Tanzania last bought 232,646 tonnes of oil products for delivery over December to January from Addax Energy at a weighted average premium of $51.507 a tonne.
The country will switch the sulphur content of its diesel cargoes to 50 ppm from 500 ppm from January, next year, as it moves to cleaner fuel standards.
East Africa's second-biggest economy, plagued by power cuts and other infrastructure challenges, is fast becoming a regional energy hub following huge offshore natural gas discoveries. It imports more diesel and gasoline than needed for its domestic market to export to landlocked neighbours.
