LAHORE: The United Nation Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) delegation has said that the organization is considering holding one year diploma course and establishing an institute for training of food safety officer at University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) on Saturday.
UNIDO two member delegations comprised by Andrew Mathieson and Muhammad Aurangzeb said that while during a meeting with UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Nawaz and other faculty members.
The representative said that Ewe toured facilities UVAS city and Ravi campus Pattoki and found that they were no less than the international standards. They praised the UVAS IT facilities and on line examination system.
We suggest establishing an institute for training of food safety officer at UVAS and lunching one year diploma course in this regard.
They said that they would also visit University of Karachi and University of Agriculture Faisalabad. Andrew Mathieson suggested the diploma course for 40 students should be started at UVAS state of art facilities.
Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the objective of this project was to achieve a significant increase in the amount of exports and products in the food sector certified as internationally compliant, thereby improving export market access for Pakistan food products though skilled manpower.
He further said that this could be achieved by strengthening the national system for food safety analyses, certification and inspection with a view to enhance compliance with international standards as well as with the TBT/SPS WTO agreements. Aurangzeb said that the basic purpose was to improve the quality standard in Pakistan and executed through food inspector.
UVAS Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Nawaz elaborated EUVAS is the national based university and making effort for the development of livestock sector and producing professional manpower to up lift the national exchequer.
Later, Dr Nawaz presented a souvenir to the UNIDO representative.
