punjab-assemblyLAHORE: PPP Deputy Parliamentary Party leader in the Punjab Assembly Shaukat Mehmud Basra while strongly condemning Karachi killings said elements behind the carnage won't succeed in their nefarious designs.

" Killing of innocent people is highly regrettable and completely unjustified", he said, adding that the situation was airing bad signal abroad.

Basra, while talking to APP at the chamber of opposition leader on Saturday, said that unscrupulous forces are hell bent to take advantage of tiff between PPP and the MQM. But, he said, the Sindh government would not allow these elements to play havoc with the lives of law abiding citizens and disturb peace.

He said that Qaim Ali Shah government has taken stringent measures to control the chaotic situation in troubled Karachi.

He was of the opinion that big foreign companies consider Pakistan as safe for their investment that is why they were here.

The government, he said, is fully committed to provide them security to their lives and investment.

Answering a question, PPP leader said, involvement of foreign hands cannot be ruled out. He particularly mentioned Indian Raw saying, "Karachi is the gateway of Pakistan's economy and all is being done to scare away foreign investors to neighbouring countries."

Basra appealed to all the political and religio-political forces to help and cooperate with the government in its efforts to re-establish peace in strife torn karachi.

PPP MPAs Nargis Faiz, Sajida Mir and Shayaan Malik, present on the occasion, said that the PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, instead of politicising Karachi issue, should condemn infiltrators responsible for the grim situation.
