Voter lists to be ready by December: EC

ISLAMABAD: Secretary Election Commission (EC) Ishtiaq Ahmad has said that the process of preparing voters list for the next general election is underway and it will be completed by December this year.

Talking to Pakistan Television (PTV) he said, after completing its work, the EC would foward the entire data to NADRA for scanning and printing of the voter lists.

"EC had introduced many reforms in the past one and a half year while more steps were also being taken to facilitate the voters", he said.

The Secretary EC said to resolve the issue of dual nationality of the incumbent Members National Assembly, a case had been referred to the Law Ministry to formulate modalities.

"A specific column will be added, in future, in nomination forms of the candidates regarding nationality," he said.

Responding to a question about bogus voter lists, Ishtiaq said about 37 million fake voters had been eliminated from the record, while 36 million fresh citizens having computerized National Identity Cards had also been registered.

The Secretary EC said a door-to-door campaign, for further verification of voters, would be started next month in collaboration with the provincial governments.
