NBP staff move Supreme Court over service structure discrimination

ISLAMABAD: A number of officers of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) have moved the Supreme Court against the alleged discrimination over issue of existing service structure.

The petitioners in the plea said that a new service structure was in force in the NBP after the introduction of Management Training Officers (MTOs) programme in 2003.

The people hired on the basis of such programme were paid heavily while other regular officers had been treated differently.

They contended that so far over 1,500 persons under this programme had been inducted who were enjoying high perks and privileges as compared to 13,000 plus other regular officers of the bank.

The writ petition filed by the regular officers said that there was no legal justification in respect of discrimination among MTOs and other employees working in the same cadre and having the same nature of job with identical qualification and they were transferred or posted on the same seats.

"In 2003, the respondent bank appointed grade II officers in regular cadre of the bank with the brand name of Management Trainee Officers and fixed their basic salary at Rs12,596 (as against Rs7,250 fixed under Circular No.37/99) disturbing the set pay structure vertically and horizontally without any justification," they alleged.

They said that they had requested the bank management to remove the disparity but to no avail.
