NUST awards honorary doctorate degree to Egyptian President Morsi

inp-18-73ISLAMABAD: The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Monday awarded degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) to the visiting Egyptian President Dr. Mohamed Morsi at a special convocation ceremony held here at the NUST campus.

The degree was awarded to Egyptian President in recognition of his achievements and significant contribution towards promotion of peace and harmony in the world and strengthening relations with the Muslim countries specially Pakistan.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mohamed Morsi said Islam urged the Muslims to seek knowledge and get enlightened by the development of science and technology.

The Egyptian President urged the new generation to get scientific knowledge despite challenges.

He said Muslim scientists made many achievements in the field of science in the past and now it is the responsibility of the young generation to follow the suit.

He said European philosophers also appreciated the successes of the Muslim scientists.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf speaking on the occasion lauded the struggle of Dr. Morsi for democracy and to ensure the basic rights of the people through a peaceful struggle.

He said Pakistan is looking forward to new vistas of cooperation with Egypt in various fields including agriculture, health and higher education. He congratulated Dr.Morsi for honorary PhD degree from the NUST,a prestigious educational institution of Pakistan.

He said being the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Chancellor NUST he extended his heartiest felicitations to Egyptian President on receiving this degree.

Referring to maiden visit of President Morsi,the Prime Minister said he is confident that this visit will serve as a basis to further deepen,diversity and strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Egypt.

He said Pakistan and Egypt have a rich history of time- honoured diplomatic relations.

He said Egypt's support and solidarity with the people and government of Pakistan have always been exemplary. Prime Minister Ashraf said both the countries stand by each other on war against terror and at times of crises.

He also acknowledged the relief consignments for Internally Displaced People from Egypt and added that being the members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) and the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, both the countries have joint cooperation at different fronts.

"We have been actively involved in trade in the past and look forward to the future prospects," he added.

Prime Minister Ashraf said Pakistan has positively anticipating the profiting investment between the two countries and therefore, cordially invite Egyptian enterprises for investment in the Pakistani market.

"We do have a rich textile industry, while Egypt has a diversified telecom sector," he added. Regarding educational sector, the Prime Minister said both the countries have good traditions of exchanging talented students adding that Al-Azhar University has played a pivotal role in this regard.

He said Pakistan is looking forward to opening up new vistas of cooperation in various fields including agriculture, health and higher education.
