Punjab Cabinet approves wheat procurement policy

 LAHORE: The Punjab Cabinet on Saturday approved wheat procurement policy 2011, Parks and Horticulture Authority Act 2010, Punjab Semen Quality Control Act 2010 and amendment in Punjab Entertainment Duty Act 1958.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over the meeting held at CM Secretariat here on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, Shahbaz Sharif said that 4 million ton wheat procurement target had been fixed for this year and better arrangements had been made for the procurement of wheat.

He said that wheat procurement would be started from April 20 and for this purpose, 375 procurement centres had been set up across the province. The distribution of bags would be started from April 18 and its distribution would be ensured on equal basis to facilitate the small farmers, Shahbaz added.

Chief minister said that committee should talk to Punjab Assembly Standing Committee regarding Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (Amendment) Bill 2008.

Regarding Parks and Horticulture Authority Act 2010, Shahbaz Sharif said that providing clean and healthy environment was the priority of the Punjab government and in this connection, Authorities would be established in all divisional headquarters including in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan on the pattern of Lahore.

During the Cabinet meeting, Semen Quality Control Act 2010 was approved under which livestock breeding control unit would be established for breeding of animals. The meeting also approved renaming the Punjab Semen Quality Control Act 2010 as Livestock Breeding Act 2011.

Earlier, provincial secretary food Irfan Elahi briefed the Punjab cabinet on wheat yield, procurement drive, arrangements, financial resources and other matters.

He told the meeting that the distribution of bags among farmers would be on 'Gardawari' base and 50 percent bags would be provided during the very first 15 days of the drive, 30 percent in next 15 days and 20 percent in another next 15 days.

Secretary Excise Khawaja Shimyl gave a detailed briefing on entertainment duty act, and secretary livestock former Capt Jehanzeb Khan on Punjab Semen Quality Control Act 2010.
