The conference on International Humanitarian & Islamic Laws analyzing War principles

PESHAWAR: Three day moot on International Humanitarian and Islamic Laws in Wars starts at University of Peshawar to analyze basic principles and compatibility of Islamic Law in wars and International Humanitarian Law with its implications in the contemporary world. More than thirty faculty members from the departments of Islamic and Seerat studies of various universities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa participated in the moot.

The conference has been jointly arranged by University of Peshawar, Institute of Islamic and Arabic Studies and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Sharing his viewpoints on the occasion, Director Institute of Islamic and Arabic studies Prof. Dr. Qibla Ayaz said that the purpose for arranging this conference is to develop know how about the body of International and Islamic law at times of war among the faculty members so that they can further explain it to their students.

Representative of the ICRC Dr. Mushtaq said that Islam has devised the best law for wars based on principles of justice and human rights that was clear guideline for norms in war presented to us more than fourteen hundred years ago.

He said that International Humanitarian Law has a very limited history and there is absolutely no doubt that many guidelines in it have been taken from the Islamic law of wars.

Registrar UoP, Dr. Syed Fazli Hadi said that such informative seminars should be held so as to help understand a comparison between the two laws.

He said that wars are being fought around the globe and it is a pity that most of the times either Muslim countries or Muslims themselves are victims of it.

Dr. Hadi said that we often see violation of International Humanitarian Law in wars and it has become a routine phenomena to which nobody is addressing.

He said Islam has provided the first and comprehensive model of norms in wars which has provided guideline to the whole world.

Dr Hadi said that we through these kinds of informative seminars can build our capacity and spread the message that Islam is a religion of peace where humanity and its respect is first priority even at times of war.
