Election 2018: Imran Khan challenges rejection of nomination papers from NA-53

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan filed on Wednesday a petition against the rejection of his nomination papers for Islamabad's NA-53 constituency.

The petition which was submitted to the appellate tribunal, argued that the decision of rejecting Khan's nomination papers was against the constitution, local media reported. The application pleaded the tribunal to dismiss returning officer's (RO) decision in rejecting Khan's nomination papers.

On Tuesday, NA-53's RO had rejected the nomination papers of three candidates contesting from the same constituencies including Khan. Khan's former party member, Ayesha Gulalai and former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi's nomination papers were also rejected.

However, all the candidates whose nomination papers were rejected by the RO, can challenge their rejection before the election tribunals from today (Wednesday) . The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has already notified regarding the candidates opportunity to challenge the rejection of their nomination papers.

The Elections 2018 are scheduled to be held on July 25.
