With PML-N’s tenure ending today, provinces yet to decide caretaker CMs

All the four provincial governments and oppositions in their respective assemblies have yet to reach a consensus and unanimously finalise names of the caretaker chief ministers (CM).

With the ruling party Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz's tenure to expire tonight, names for caretaker CMs of Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have not been announced yet. Even though the provincial government and opposition leaders of the respective assemblies have been meeting to decide on caretaker CM, they are yet to form a consensus.

The Punjab government earlier announced Nasir Khosa as the Punjab CM, however, later Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf withdrew Khosa's name.

Similarly, on May 26, KP CM Pervez Khattak and opposition leader Maulana Lutfur Rehman had mutually agreed and announced the appointment of Manzoor Afridi as the caretaker CM. This announcement too had brought criticism and his name was also later on withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah and Leader of the Opposition Khawaja Izharul Hasan are expected to meet today (Thursday) to decide on caretaker CM. If they are unable to decide, the matter will be taken up to a parliamentary committee. However, if the parliamentary committee too is unable to resolve, the matter will be taken up to Election Commission of Pakistan.

On May 28, Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah had finalized the name of the caretaker PM and nominated former Chief Justice of Pakistan Nasir-ul-Mulk. This decision too had come after several meetings between the duo.
