The Supreme Court (SC) was informed on Monday by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) that the absconding Rao Anwar was still receiving salary, which is being deposited in his bank accounts.

Once the hearing of the extra-judicial murder of  Naqeebullah Mehsud resumed, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar inquired whether the banks accounts of Anwar have been frozen. The governor of SBP Tariq Bajwa replied in affirmative.

However, CJP was also informed that while Anwar could not withdraw money, his salary was being deposited in his accounts, local media reported. The CJP remarked that those found facilitating Anwar will be answerable to SC and strict action would be taken against them.

Sindh Inspector General of Police Allah Dino Khawaja has been directed by the SC to brief the court about Anwar's arrest in an in-camera briefing at 1:30pm today. The top court has also directed the director general of Airport Security Force (ASF) to bring relevant record before the court today.

The SC also inquired the Civil Aviation Authority to answer that on whose authority was Anwar  issued a boarding pass of the private airline when he attempted to flee to Dubai.

SC receives another letter from absconding Rao Anwar

On March 16, the SC had given IG three days time to arrest Anwar and also submit the progress report on March 19 (today). Two days before that, the SC had received a second letter fom Anwar, in which the absconding officer had asked court to unfreeze his bank accounts.

Anwar had also written another letter before that, in which he claimed that he was innocent and that he was not present at the site of the encounter when Mehsud was killed. Anwar had also asked for a free and fair joint investigation.

The former Malir Senior Superintendent Police is wanted in the extra-judicial murder of 27-year-old Naqeebullah Mehsud and has yet to be arrested. The absconding officer is in hiding ever since he tried to flee the country.
