ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Rehman Malik on Monday said the Punjab Police were making their best efforts to arrest the accused of Zainab’s murder and hoped they would succeed.

Talking to media persons along with the parents of Zainab, outside the Parliament House here, Rehman Malik said he had requested the girl's parents to attend the meeting of the Senate committee.

He said Zainab was a daughter of the whole nation and nobody should politicize the matter. The today’s meeting of the committee would not affect the ongoing inquiry, he added.

He said eight incidents of children's rape-cum-murder had occurred and according to the DNA test only one person was involved in all the cases.

He said that Kasur had been turned into a hub of rape and murder and the Senate committee on Interior had directed the Punjab Police to start a safe city project there.

Rehman Malik said the parents of Zainab had recorded their statement before the committee in the presence of the additional inspector general of Punjab police and the committee had directed the police officials to submit a comprehensive report to it within 15 days.

Zainab's father blamed that police did not make sincere efforts in the first five days, when Zainab was kidnapped. He said the accused did not belong to his family as according to the CCTV footages he looked like a stranger.

He said that he and his family were cooperating with the police and also voluntarily offered themselves for DNA tests.
