‘Government making efforts to boost industrial activities in Sindh’
KARACHI: Speaker Sindh Assembly, Nisar Khuhro, has advised the trade and industry not to lose hope and work hard as better days are not far away.
Speaking at annual dinner of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), he said that Pakistan has started export of wheat, sugar, cotton and other commodities due to bumper crops.
He emphasised the need of developing the strategy for agriculture sector in order to get more share in the world market.
He said that Pakistan have to focus on the areas with great export potential, like agriculture value-added goods and electrical capital goods. He assured that government making all possible efforts to boost industrial activities in the province.
The speaker said that no government wants to lose its grip on the affairs but at times conditions get insurmountable.
He appreciated a proposal that S M Muneer should be appointed as caretaker prime minister.
The leader of the business community S M Muneer advised general pubic to unite and use their voting right in coming elections to elect only the best among the candidates in forthcoming general elections. He said that due to deteriorating law and order situation in the city , the economy is in bad shape and law and order in the city getting bad to worse while government is doing nothing for its improvement.
He also demanded the government to appoint an honest and impartial person as Chairman NAB.
President All Karachi Industrial Alliance (AKIA) Mian Zahid Hussain said that the industry’s representatives have cautioned the government to reduce interest and lower tariffs of power and gas in order to avoid massive closure of industrial units and arrest the rising NPLs.
He said that the level of NPLs at present is crossing even more than Rs760 billion due to anti-industry policy and overburdening the business community with tariffs and increasing cost of inputs.
Chairman KATI Ehtesham Uddin said that all is not well in the industry as worsening law and order situation and ongoing water, power and gas crisis is forcing the industrialists to close down their units.
He demanded of the Sindh government to reconstruct Jam Sadique Bridge linking Korangi Industrial Area with the rest of the city.
Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that businessmen are facing many hardships and uncountable problems but they do not raise their voice strongly. He urged the business community to change its way of raising voice and instead of begging compel the policy-makers to change their stance.
