LAHORE: Power shortfall has reached to 6500MW due to short supply of fuel to thermal power plants. Resultantly power outages intensified both on domestic and commercial fronts. Especially, the industrial units on independent and grouped feeders are the worst hit, as exemption from load shedding has already been withdrawn leading to capacity closures across the board.

However, the NTDC sources said power shortfall is not more than 4482MW with generation of 4417MW through hydel, 1212MW through thermal and 5739MW through IPPs respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to KESC stood at 700MW.

The urban and rural areas witnessed load shedding for 12 and 18 hours respectively. Many urban areas are also short of water supplies, adding salt to public worries.
