SIALKOT: Chairman Surgical Instrument and Manufacturers Association of Pakistan (SMIAP), Jehangeer Baja, has said that despite unfavorable circumstance it is expected that the export of surgical instruments will exceed $300 million during the current fiscal year.

Talking to APP here Sunday, he said the export of surgical instruments had increased to $261million from $221 million during the last fiscal year.

"The business community is making strenuous efforts for enhancing the export volume despite certain constrains like electricity loadshedding, increase in electricity and gas tariff," he added.

Bajwa said shortages of electricity and gas were hindering productivity because electricity and gas were basic requirements of the industrial sector.

"We are making an all-out effort to increase the export volume of surgical instruments to manifold but our efforts are fruitless because frequent hikes in electricity and gas tariff are a major hurdle to our efforts," he added.
