CANNES: Alec Baldwin, Kylie Minogue and Janet Jackson will be among the hosts of a star-studded AIDS fundraising gala on the sidelines of the Cannes Film Festival, organisers said Wednesday.

The American AIDS research foundation amfAR said the glittering May 24 event in Antibes, just down from Cannes on the French Riviera, would also draw German-born Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and US film producer Harvey Weinstein.

"As always, the gala will include many surprise performances and appearances as many of the celebrity guests help with the event's world-renowned live auction," amfAR said.

The Cinema Against AIDS gala will also take in a fashion show, with participants including Balenciaga, Roberto Cavalli, Diane von Furstenberg, Kenneth Cole and Tom Ford.

The entire collection is to be auctioned as a single lot.

Last year's event, the biggest of its kind in Europe, raised a record-breaking seven million euros (nine million dollars) and was attended by Monaco's Prince Albert II and his then bride-to-be Charlene Wittstock and a galaxy of other celebrities.

AmfAR supports HIV research, prevention, treatment, education and the advocacy of AIDS-related public policy.
