Driver of Sargodha Express killed after train collides with dumper

(Karachi) An assistant driver of Sargodha Express lost his life after the train hit a dumper and derailed in Sargodha, media reported on Monday.

Police officials said that the train was on its way to Lahore from Sargodha when a dumper tried to cross the track near Nishtarabad Railway Station. As a result, the train hit the dumper and derailed.

The assistant driver of Sargodha Express died on the spot due to the impact of the accident while the dumper driver escaped with minor injuries. The deceased was identified as Muhammad Waseem.

Soon after the incident, rescue operation commenced. The body and injured were shifted to local hospital. Meanwhile, the railways suspended traffic on the track for a few hours. Later, heavy machinery reached the site of the collision and cleared the track.

The police said that investigations are under way to determine the cause of the mishap.

Earlier, Karakoram Express derailed near Faisalabad Railway Station. However, no loss of life was reported in the incident.
