Need stressed for creating awareness about diabetes

Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Principal Dr Sardar Mohammad Alfareed Zafar and Head of PINS Dr Khalid Mahmood has said that there should be aggressive mass awareness campaign, especially seminars should be arranged in educational institutions, to control the rapidly growing disease of diabetes.

They expressed these views while addressing a workshop on diabetes held here on Tuesday under the aegis of Medical Unit III of Lahore General Hospital and Sugar Clinic. More than 125 doctors participated who were given training lecture and presentations on the complications and solutions of diabetic patients. They further said that media should also play to mobilize people to change their life style and convince them to eat less and walk more, which can lead them towards a healthy environment.

While talking to media, Dr Zafar and Dr Mahmood said that to establish a healthy and strong Pakistan, it is necessary that young generation be saved from diseases. "It is the basic responsibility of parents to keep an eye on the nutrition of their children and save them from fast food and unhygienic eatables."

They also said that it is unfortunate that every fourth person is caught of diabetes and it is rapidly increasing in the society. "With precautionary measures and prevention we can save ourselves from chronic disease of diabetes, which directly affects eyes, kidneys and other human body parts," they added.

They appreciated the holding of such training workshop in Lahore General Hospital which provides a platform to the doctors to get modern learning and training. On the occasion, Dr Tahir Siddique, Dr Farooq Afzal, Dr. Mohammad Moeen, Dr. Imran Hassan Khan, Dr Maleha Hameed, Dr Mamoona Ashraf, Dr Rana Asif Sagheer and Dr Salman Sagheer also addressed the workshop and highlighted different aspects of diabetes and its treatment.
