Prime Minister Imran Khan will pay a visit to Iran in upcoming few days, PM’s special assistant Naeem ul Haque confirmed news men in Islamabad on Friday.

The premier’s visit to the neighbouring country is said to be very crucial after he had offered to act as mediator to defuse tensions in the Middle East over the request of the US President Donald Trump at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf senior leader in an informal talk with media said during his Iran’s visit, the premier will hold meetings with its leadership.

Earlier, An Iranian-owned oil tanker was hit by two missiles in the Red Sea off Saudi Arabia’s coast on Friday, stoking tension in a region that has faced a series of attacks on crude ships and oil facilities since May.

The incident is the latest involving oil tankers in the Red Sea and Gulf region and is likely to ratchet up tensions between Tehran and Riyadh, long-time regional foes that have been fighting a proxy war in Yemen, which lies at the southern end of the Red Sea.

The United States, embroiled in a row with Tehran over its nuclear plans, has blamed on Iran for those incidents. Tehran has denied having a role in any of the attacks since May.
