An accountability court granted on Monday parole to former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) in the liquefied natural gas case.

Judge Mohammad Bashir has granted parole to the former PM to attend the funeral prayers of his uncle. The court has also asked district authorities in the twin Rawalpindi and Islamabad to provide fool-proof security to the former PM, local media reported.

Earlier, the sister of the former prime minister had submitted an application in the court requesting the parole of her brother.

On September 12, the accountability bureau had granted it final extension in the physical remand of the PML-N leader. The court had directed National Accountability Bureau to complete its investigation. Abbasi is in the bureau's custody till September 26.
