Sindh government taken many steps for eradication of TB
KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho Thursday said that Sindh government has taken many steps for the eradication of Tuberculosis (TB) from the province.
Addressing as a chief guest at a seminar held in connection with the World TB day at a local hotel, she reiterated the importance of developing multi-sector responsibility framework to end TB in line with the agreement signed by the member states at United Nations General Assembly High Level TB Meeting held on September 26th, last year.
Dr. Azra said that the core issue of TB needs to be addressed through multi-pronged approach through bio social model.
The minister added that the health care system to be devolved at the district level to achieve an integrated health care system. A technical committee has been formed to address the communicable diseases in province comprising of specialists. End TB initiative will be integrated at district level, with the support of civil administration and line departments and partners.
Dr. Azra thanked all the partners, academicians from various universities and vice chancellors to join hands with the health department & civil society organizations to actively participate in curbing TB.
The seminar was organized by Stop TB Partnership Pakistan, Mercy Corps & BRIDGE Consultants.
Earlier, Vice Chairman of Stop TB Dr. Sharaf Ali Shah delivered the welcome speech. An overview and situational analysis was given by Stop Tb senior consultant Dr. Syed Karam Shah.
Director TB Control Sindh, professors, representatives of STOP TB and public sector were also present on the occasion.
