The Sri Lankan rupee closed marginally weaker on Thursday as dollar demand from importers and banks in late trade surpassed selling of the US currency in early trade and inward remittances, dealers said. The rupee ended at 158.20/40 per dollar, compared with Tuesday's close of 158.10/40. Financial markets were closed on Wednesday for a public holiday.
The spot rupee hit an all-time low of 160.17 per dollar on June 20 and is down 3.2 percent so far this year.
