Training of young doctors: teachers urged to pay special attention
Punjab Minister for Health Dr Jawad Sajid Khan has urged upon the medical teachers to pay special attention on training of young doctors to make them true professional physicians and surgeons. "Relation of respect between teacher and student should be strengthened for which teachers should present themselves as role model for strengthening the sanctity and respect of the noble profession," Dr Jawad said this while addressing the faculty members of King Edward Medical University in the Senate Hall of KEMU, here on Tuesday.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Masood Gondal, all members of the faculty and Medical Superintendent Mayo Hospital were present in the meeting. Earlier, Prof Khalid Masood Gondal threw light on the historical prospects of the university. He said that King Edward Medical College was established in 1911 and the college was given status of medical university in 2005. He further informed the meeting that the new building of KEMU is under construction which would be completed in 2019 and would give a new look to the institution.
Prof informed the house that new campus of KEMU is also being established in Muridke and it would be completed within a year. He disclosed that the father of the present Health Minister Prof Ayub Ahmed Khan was the pioneer who established orthopedic surgery department in KEMC in 1948.
The other teachers also spoke on the occasion and stress the need to enhance the financial benefits for the medical teachers including better pay scales. On this occasion, minister health said that principally he is agreed that the grade 21 is the right of the professors. Project Director Surgical Tower Mayo Hospital Prof Ibrar Ashraf also gave presentation regarding the newly built surgical tower and the facilities being given in the tower.
