The country's gold import shot up by 21.34 percent to $19.312 million in July-May 2017-18, official figures say. Increase in the import of yellow metal now stands at $3.397 million in July-May 2017-18 from $15.915 million in July-May 2016-17, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics shows. Gold import volume also grew by 13 percent or 54 kilograms to 475 kilograms in July-May 2017-18 from 421 kilograms in July-May 2016-17.
In May 2018, the country's gold import surged by 68.19 percent or $864, 000 to $2.131 million from $1.267 million in July-May 2017. In term of quantity, gold import mounted by 63 percent or 20 kilograms to 52 kilograms in May 2018 from 32 kilograms in May 2017.
