The Lahore High Court on Thursday directed an additional advocate general to appear today (Friday) and explain, whether provincial caretaker government had the mandate to remove law officers appointed by the former government. The court was hearing a petition of ten assistant advocate generals terminated by the caretaker government.
The petitioners' counsel Shahzad Shaukat stated that under Election Rules 2017, the caretaker government, could only transfer or shuffle public officials, after the approval of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
They said the process for the appointment of the petitioners was initiated in 2016 and they underwent a series of interviews and scrutiny before being short listed for the posts.
