Thousands of mourners thronged the funeral of a veteran journalist shot dead by unidentified gunmen on a motorbike outside his office in the main city of Indian held Kashmir. Shujaat Bukhari, a leading journalist and editor of the English-language daily Rising Kashmir, was leaving his office in occupied Srinagar on Thursday evening when three assailants roared up and fired several shots from close range.
How unfortunate it is that the right-wing Indian media has begun to blame the freedom fighters. The media is not questioning the BJP, which is a junior partner in the PDP-led coalition government, why the eminent journalist was killed. Aren't the Indian intelligences responsible for Bukhari Sahib's assassination? Not only is India's right-wing protecting the BJP, it is denigrating and demonizing those who are questioning PDP-BJP government's role in held Kashmir.
