Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Friday demanded immediate transfer of director general Intelligence Bureau (IB) along with some senior members of his team, saying the incumbent official was appointed on the recommendation of outgoing IB DG Aftab Sultan.
In a letter written to the caretaker Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasirul Mulk, PTI leader Ali Zaidi said that a "special political cell" was set up by Aftab Sultan, former IB chief, in a bid to help PML-N politically as the civilian agency helped the party throughout its five years term.
He said that the services of Aftab Sultan for the Sharif family even after his retirement is no privy to masses, adding he was the man who had set up a 'special political cell' consisting of some senior officers of the bureau and the appointment of Dr Suleman Khan is also part of that cell.
He said that removal of Dr Suleman Khan ahead of general elections 2018 along with some other senior officials of the bureau is a must to ensure free and fair elections. The other IB officials of whom the PTI leader demanded immediate posting include Shujaatullah Qureshi, Owais Ayub, Bilala Riaz Barki, Nafis Makki and Fawad Asadullah.
"All the above mentioned people led by Dr Suleman are part of political cell formed by Aftab Sultan to support Nawaz Sharif in 2018 elections. And posting these officials including the DG without any delay is a must to ensure transparent polls," he declared.
Zaidi also claimed that the alleged political cell within the IB comprising the above mentioned people is also running a housing scheme, and the amount which it gets through it is used for political maneuvering. "I request the prime minister to take immediate action against the political cell within IB and transfer the officials in question along with the DG in order to ensure transparent polls, as any delay in this regard will tarnish the image of the interim government," he added.
