Colombia coffee output up

Colombia produced 1.18 million 60-kg bags of washed arabica coffee in May, up 32 percent from the same month a year earlier, the National Coffee Growers' Federation said on Tuesday. The federation said the increase was due to delayed flowering on some trees that had been expected to produce in previous months.
Colombia will spend 39 billion pesos ($13.5 million) on coffee tree replacements this year, the government has said, after the federation called repeatedly for aid for farmers amid lower prices and the adverse effects of a stronger peso.
Exports for May grew 15 percent to 961,479 bags. The Andean country produced 14.2 million bags in 2017.
