It is interesting to note that PML-N, PPP and other parties are on the proverbial same page as far as the date of the 2018 general elections - July 25 - is concerned. According to them, neither the outgoing government nor the parties that constituted Opposition during the PML-N's five-year tenure will countenance any delay in polls. They have made their positions clear after Balochistan MPAs called for the postponement of elections.
It is true that the need of hour is uninterrupted civilian governance by elected people. It is also true that free and fair elections are necessary for democracy, besides being constitutional requirement. Caretaker prime minister Justice Nasirul-Mulk has vowed that elections will be held on time. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which has already announced election schedule, is therefore required to hold free and fair elections in accordance with the election schedule.
