Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a significant decrease in the incidents of terrorism and other crimes during the last five months as compared to those of previous year. A police spokesman said here on Wednesday, a total of 16 theft and 17 extortion cases occurred during five months as compared to 19 theft and 35 extortion cases in the last year.
According to statistics, four incidents of kidnapping for ransom took place during the current year as compared to 11 in the year 2017. Thus, the incidents of kidnapping for ransom dropped 64% as compared to those of the last year. He said KP has adopted a policy of offensive-cum-defensive for combating terrorism and during the current year, 31 incidents of terrorism took place as compared to 44 incidents in the last year which showed 13% decrease in the terrorism incidents. As per report, the attacks on police also decreased to a great extent.
A total of 45 attacks on police happened as compared to 80 attacks in last year which are 35% less than the previous year. Similarly, down trend in the attacks on other government officials was also noted in the report. This year 28 incidents of such nature took place as compared to 34 attacks during the last year and thus 6% decrease has been noted in these attacks. Moreover, under the National Action Plan, KP police also exhibited excellent performance, he said.
KP police in the ongoing Search and Strike Operations in the province apprehended 46,110 suspects and recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession. Similarly, police action against usury also remained satisfactory. In this regard, this year action against 269 persons was taken as compared to 41 persons in the last year which is more than last year. KP police also gave tough time to narcotics peddlers and registered 18,209 cases against them as compared to 14,672 cases of last year, which is far better than the correspondent year.
