Opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Mahmood ur Rasheed met with the PML-Q senior leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi at his Gulberg residence here Saturday and discussed matters concerning appointment of caretaker chief minister in Punjab. During the meeting, views were also exchanged on the country's political situation and upcoming general elections in the country. Mahmood ur Rasheed, sources said apprised Parvez Elahi about his meeting with the Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the names, both sides floated for the caretaker Punjab CM.
Mahmood ur Rasheed is holding consultation ahead of his second meeting with Shehbaz Sharif on Monday in which it is expected that consensus may be developed in the name of caretaker Punjab CM. Elahi, the sources said shared with Mahmood that caretaker set up in Punjab must be impartial so that elections be held in free, fair and impartial manner.
Initially, the sources claim the PTI selected names of former bureaucrat Tariq Khosa, former federal education minister Dr Safdar Mahmood and former State Bank governor Shahid Kardar. Later on, the PTI proposed former chief secretary Kamran Rasool as its candidate for the caretaker chief minister. The sources said the PTI and the PML-N had narrowed down two names - one name each from either side, and is expected that formal announcement may be made on Tuesday. Mahmood ur Rasheed is also expected to meet leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and People's Party ahead of his meeting with Shehbaz Sharif on Monday.
