Health professionals have warned that overeating in Ramazan may cause stomach-related diseases and other serious health complications.
"The problems of ulcer and other gastro complications are common during Ramazan as the faithful while observing fast do not follow guidelines of healthy lifestyle," they said.
Talking to Business Recorder, former medical superintendent Lahore General Hospital Captain Dr Niaz Ahmed said there is surge in the number of patients approaching health facilities with complaints of abdominal pain. According to him, overeating at Iftar and Sehri can not only harm the body but it may also interfere with a person's spiritual growth during the month, causing fatigue, sleepiness and lethargy.
Balanced diet in this month can help improve health of the faithful but poor eating habits lead to health problems. He added that bad habit of sleeping straight away after Sehri can result in acid reflux, which causes health complications. Another common practice is overeating during Iftar which lead to triggering dyspepsia and acid reflux for gastritis/PUD patients, he said. He urged the people to take balanced diet and avoid over eating to avoid health complications.
