Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has urged Prime Minster Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to brief the Parliament about the decisions taken at National Security Committee (NSC).
Talking to media persons about former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's Mumbai attacks statement here at his chamber, Shah said that the Prime Minister should come to the Parliament, explain the decisions taken at the NSC meeting and take the nation into confidence. He said it is responsibility of the government to deal with the fallout emanating from the former prime minister's statement. Shah said, "I being an opposition leader and the whole House are looking forward to the explanation of the Prime Minister and Nawaz Sharif for the statement."
The opposition leader said that he was specially invited to participate in National Security Committee (NSC) meeting but he decided not to attend it due to late invitation. He said that he was unaware of it until Monday morning. "I reached Islamabad on late Sunday night and was called to attend the meeting on the next morning." He said that people on important posts should think before speaking and the government will have to decide about the statement given by Nawaz Sharif. He said that words can be misinterpreted; hence, those on important posts should speak carefully. "One should be cautious while making such statements given the circumstances," he said.
Meanwhile, senior PPP leader and former Interior Minister Rehman Malik urged Nawaz to retract his statement. Talking to media persons, the former interior minister said that Nawaz Sharif had implicated Pakistan through his statement on the Mumbai attacks. "I categorically deny our institutions' involvement in it," he said.
Rehman Malik said that Ajmal Kasab was recruited by India's Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and added that India had denied Pakistan access to Kasab for investigations. "They did not give us access to the evidence either," he said. He said that Nawaz Sharif could be called at the United Nations due to his statement. He also encouraged Nawaz Sharif to apologize on his statement. The PPP on Monday also submitted an adjournment motion against the controversial statement of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. According to adjournment motion, "Irresponsible statements will adversely affect our national security and diplomatic efforts. Therefore, the issue should see a thorough discussion in the National Assembly."
