Unannounced load shedding has started impacting business activities throughout the province as the distribution companies (DISCOs) are practicing two to six hours load shedding in urban and rural areas to manage the load. Especially, with a rise in temperature the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has exercised unannounced load shedding in three girds of the city, affecting the electricity supply to a number of areas and vicinities in the city.
As many as 486 feeders in the LESCO region are facing losses due to electricity theft, non-payment of bills and low recovery. Out of these feeders, over 200 are within the vicinity of Lahore city while rest of them are located in Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib and Okara. Consumers have expressed worries over the prevailing situation and they have apprehended more load shedding during the holy month of Ramazan. According to them, major cities like Lahore and others are already facing three to four hours a day load shedding in a situation when temperature is bearable. However, the frequency of load shedding will rise soon after the temperature crosses the alarming level of 40 degree centigrade in the middle of next month when the month of Ramazan will start.
