The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Friday formally notified all candidates who were successfully elected in March 3 Senate elections except the five senators-elect for their dual nationality. The Election Commission has withheld notifications of the five senators-elect in light of the Supreme Court's order in dual nationality case. Out of the five, four senators-elect are from Punjab - Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Chaudhry Sarwar, PML-N's Humayoun Akhtar, Nuzhat Sadiq and the Prime Minister's sister Sadia Abbasi - and one is from Balochistan - Khuda Babar.
The fate of these five is to be decided today (Saturday) by the Supreme Court which will determine if they will be able to vote for Senate chairman on March 12. The electoral body had sent notifications to all the newly elected senators on Friday after they submitted their asset details.
Out of the senators notified of the election, eight are from Punjab, 12 from Sindh, 11 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10 from Balochistan, two from Islamabad and four are from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
