Senate chairman: Fazl asks Nawaz to support consensus candidate
Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), Maulana Fazlur Rehman met former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in Lahore on Friday and discussed matters related to election of Senate chairman and deputy chairman. Sources claimed that Maulana Fazl suggested Nawaz Sharif to bring and support the consensus candidate for the slot of Senate chairman. He also sought support of the PML-N for his party's candidate against the office of deputy chairman Senate, the sources added.
The sources further said that both the leaders expressed resolved to have more consultation with other allies so as to evolve joint strategy for upcoming polls. The sources said that Maulana Fazl also apprised Nawaz Sharif about his meeting with Asif Ali Zardari who seems in a commanding position due to support of Balochistan Chief Minister Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo to whom Imran Khan has given support of his party's Senators.
The Sources said Nawaz Sharif is reaching Islamabad on Saturday (today) where he would meet the PML-N leaders and allies of the PML-N government. Senator Pervez Rasheed and Khawaja Saad Rafique were also present during the meeting.
